The Divine Source of Human Rights (Part 2)

allah is great

The main principle of rights, which guarantees their being carried out, is highly dependent on proving the elements of authority, obligation, and the necessity of commitment to them. This could happen in the presence of “the authority”‌ only, and the only real authority belongs to God, as He is the owner of the heavens and the earth, according to Qur’an. Therefore, no other authority is considered as a real one according to this logic; and Qur’an reproaches those who accept something or someone else other than Him as the authority.

Here are some examples from Qur’an,

“It is God Who has created the heavens and the earth, and all between them, in six Days, and is firmly established on the Throne (of Authority): ye have none, besides Him, to protect or intercede (for you): will ye not then receive admonition?”‌ (Al Sajdah: 4)

And, “Knowest thou not that to God belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth? And besides Him ye have neither patron nor helper.”‌ (Al Baqarah: 107)

Therefore, every other logic, but the one considering God as the source for every right, is senseless. This is because the elements of obligation and commitment are needed, while obligation without ownership and authority is not credible and real. Human beings should be committed to these rules willingly and not to be forced to do it because of external powers. And this is possible only in presence of God.
