Iran will launch homemade satellites

Satellite

TEHRAN, Nov. 10  – Minister of Communication and Information Technology Mohammad Soleimani said here Saturday Iran will launch a host of satellites that are under construction inside the country.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony to celebrate the World Space Week, he said the country will join the Space Club after the project is implemented successfully.

“The presence in the space manifests power,” said the minister, adding the countries that launch satellites could meet their needs easily as they have dominance over the Earth.

Satellites help facilitate and economize communications, linking the remotest areas at the most reasonable costs, he added.

Iran is prone to natural disasters and environmental problems including deforestation and desertification, making the use of satellites more palpable, he noted.

World Space Week is an annual observance held from Oct. 4-10 established by the United Nations General Assembly to be an international celebration of science and technology and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. World Space Week is coordinated by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs with the support of World Space Week Association, a non-government organization.

The start and end dates of World Space Week recognize the launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, on Oct. 4, 1957; and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on Oct. 10, 1967.
