Iran film warmly received in Singapore

Iranian filmmaker and actor Mehrshad Karkhani’s National Alley has been warmly received in the 24th edition of the Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF).

Karkhani’s film, which was screened in the Silver Screening Awards section of the event, won great acclaim after its screening on September 22, 2011.

Produced by Amir Samavati, the filme was nominated for the Grand Prix of the Silver Screening Awards section of the festival, Mehr News Agency reported.

The film tells the story of two young people who accidentally meet, and later embark on attempts to find a copy of an old movie in movie theaters of the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Written by Arash Borhani and Karkhani himself, the movie was also screened at the 29th edition of Iran’s Fajr International Film Festival.

The 47-year-old Karkhani started his career by photography in 1983 and later moved on to other fields such as acting, filmmaking, and scriptwriting. Loose Rope and My Sin are his other cinematic production.

The Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) is an annual event which screens about 300 films from over 45 countries. The 2011 edition of the event was held from September 15 to 25.
