Salehi: Palestine not to be spilt into two pieces

foreign minister ali-akbar salehi

Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi stressed that Palestine could not be divided into two pieces the way certain people are pursuing to do.

Talking to reporters Sunday at the sideline of the First International Islamic Awakening Conference, he said that the official stand of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the issue of Palestine was that it belonged to all Palestinians as it has ever been.

He said that Iran will never concede to breaking up of Palestine.

The foreign minister further stressed that Iran will never officially recognize the Zionist regime.

He noted that this has been Tehran’s official stand regarding the issue since the very beginning of establishment of the Islamic Republic and will remain so in the future.

He further noted that Iran considered the holding of a free referendum attended by all Palestinians as the sole solution to the issue of Palestine.

Commenting on the imminent visit of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to New York to take part in the United Nations General Assembly annual summit, Salehi said the Iranian delegation will also participate in gatherings to be held on different issues at the sideline of the meeting such as security of nuclear technology.

Pointing out that a number of world leaders have asked Iran to release the Americans imprisoned in Iran on spying charges, he hoped that the judiciary officials would act on the basis of Islamic compassion.
