Iran, France seek closer cooperation
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for the expansion of ties between Iran and France, noting that there are no major differences between Tehran and Paris.
He made the remarks during a meeting with the French ambassador to Iran, Bruno Foucher, in Tehran on Saturday, the Iranian president’s official website reported.
“There is no substantial disagreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and France… but it is important that both countries make efforts to enhance bilateral relations,” Ahmadinejad said.
He went on to say that the unjust system that has long dominated the world has come to an end, and the world needs a new order based on respect and justice, adding that if relations are built on justice and mutual respect, they will benefit all nations.
The French envoy submitted his credentials to President Ahmadinejad and said Paris wants to improve its ties with Tehran, adding, “We believe that if there is a disagreement between the two countries, we can find a solution to resolve it.”
“Iran and France enjoy a historical relationship, and today we are determined to expand our relations with Tehran,” Foucher added.
Earlier in the day, Ahmadinejad also held a meeting with the new Ecuadorian ambassador to Tehran, Bicente Blis, in which the two discussed ways to increase the level of interactions between Tehran and Quito.
