The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has dispatched its first convoy of humanitarian relief to Yemeni people injured in anti-government protests.

The convoy was sent from Iran’s southern port of Bandar Abbas to Yemen’s Hudaydah port on Tuesday, IRIB website reported.

The consignment weighs about 30 tons and includes tents, blankets, first aid kits and stretchers.

The IRCS has dispatched the convoy to Yemen upon a request from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

In a popular revolution, thousands of people have been turning out for demonstrations in Yemen’s major cities since January.

They have been calling for an end to corruption and unemployment and demanding the ouster of Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Hundreds of Yemeni protesters have been killed and many more injured in a brutal crackdown on popular anti-government protests by military forces and forces of the Saudi-backed regime.
