Pakistan Senate chairman meets top Iranian officials

During Naek’s meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president said that the change in the West’s policy toward issues in the region has provided regional nations a great opportunity to help end foreign presence in the Middle East.

The developments taking place in the region “indicate that pursuing violent actions will no longer benefit the enemies of humanity and they have realized that the era (of violent actions) is over,” Ahmadinejad stated.

He said, “The change in their policy has provided (regional nations) an opportunity to completely end the presence of foreigners in the region.”

“However, if regional nations do not take this opportunity to strengthen their cultural bonds and their solidarity, there remains a danger that the hegemonistic powers will create discord and problems again,” Ahmadinejad added.

Today, regional nations should work hand in hand and increase their cooperation in order to foil the enemies’ plots, he stated.

“The problems facing the region were imposed on nations by foreigners and from outside the region,” Ahmadinejad explained.

The Iranian president also said the fact that regional nations have a great ability to influence other nations has put the enemies in a quandary.

Ahmadinejad also stated that comprehensive cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad will benefit both countries.

Naek said that the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a key role in promoting peace and security in the region, adding that the two countries should increase their cooperation to counter the threats being made against the Islamic ummah.

In the meeting between Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Naek, Larijani stated that Tehran and Islamabad should step up their efforts in the campaign against terrorism.

He also said that Iran and Pakistan should maintain close cooperative relations to help promote peace and security in the neighboring country of Afghanistan.

Naek told Salehi that the enemies of Islam are seeking to sow discord among Muslims and Iran-Pakistan cooperation can play an important role in maintaining and strengthening unity among Muslims.

Naek also held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, in which Salehi proposed the establishment of Iran-Pakistan joint security commission.

Salehi also suggested that Pakistan sign the agreement to establish Central Asia-Persian Gulf transit and transport corridor, which was inked by the foreign ministers of Iran, Turkmenistan, Oman, Qatar, and Uzbekistan in Ashgabat on April 25.

He also expressed Iran’s readiness to transfer electricity to Pakistan.

Naek stated that Pakistan is keen to expand its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in various areas.

Naek also met with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili on Friday.
