Italian filmmaker Vittorio De Seta to visit Iran
Italian filmmaker Vittorio De Seta, who is mostly known for his documentaries, will travel to Iran in late September.
De Seta has been invited by Iranian documentarian Kamran Shirdel, who was one of his students, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Sunday.
He has been scheduled to attend various programs during his sojourn in Tehran.
Ten short documentaries he made between 1954 and 1959 will be screened at the Iranian Artists Forum on September 28, the day before he is due to arrive in Tehran.
In addition, he will attend screenings of a number of his documentaries at the Mellat Cinema Complex on October 5.
De Seta, 87, is considered one of Italian cinema’s greatest imaginative realists of the sixties.
“Bandits of Orgosolo”, which was made after the ten short documentaries, was his debut film.
The 10th Tribeca Film Festival paid homage to De Seta and screened the feature-length film at the event in last April and May.
His early documentaries highlight the daily lives of Sicily’s poorest workers, and are notable for their lack of voice-over narration, quiet mood and extraordinary color.
He has received many accolades at international events.
