iran opens 6th sand sculpture festival

The 6th edition of Iran’s International Sand Sculpture Festival has kicked off by the Caspian Sea in the country'’s northern Mazandaran Province.

The event opened in the city of Babolsar on August 3, 2010, showcasing 31 sand sculptures, Tehran Times reported.

The works were selected from among 160 artworks by some 700 artists, head of Mazandaran’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Office Abbas-Ali Ebrahimi explained.

Works of artists from the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states have been displayed at the Guest Section of the festival.

Visitors can also attend handicrafts exhibitions and workshops, held on the sidelines of the festival, and become more familiar with the traditional cuisine of the region by visiting food pavilions built at the site.
