Iran carries out third stage of naval war games
Iran launched the third phase of a major naval maneuver in the country’s southern waters of the Straight of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman in a show of its military strength.
The eight-day maneuver, entitled Velayat-89, started on Wednesday, covering a span of about 250,000 square kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz to the northern Indian Ocean.
Iranian marines on Saturday successfully attacked hypothetical enemy’s coasts and occupied the area during the forth day of the massive war games currently underway.
The navy forces used the gunboats to approach the mock enemy coastal lands and occupied the area during a military operation.
In another war game, Iran’s navy speedboats, backed by the Air Force jet fighters, stopped an invading enemy vessel and captured commandos on board.
In another operation, hovercrafts strafed mock enemy targets while vessels, destroyers, and frigates blocked their advance towards Iran’s territorial waters, Press TV reported.
Certain tactical operations including electronic countermeasures (ECM) as well as disabling enemy radars and communication systems were also conducted
