Pacifiers prevent breastfeeding success
A new Danish study has reported that infants given a pacifier in the first weeks of their life are less likely to continue breastfeeding.
The majority of mothers have difficulty nursing their babies in the first week after labor mainly due to incorrect breastfeeding technique or having problem with positioning the baby.
This however does not influence the duration in which the mother breastfeeds her child, a new study shows.
According to the study published in Birth, using pacifiers affects the success of breastfeeding independent of the breastfeeding technique.
Nearly two-thirds of the women studied reported having given their babies pacifiers.
Scientists urged mothers willing to breastfeed their babies to avoid giving them pacifiers in the first weeks after birth.
