Tappeh Cheshmeh offensive operation (April 4th, 1981)

Coincident with the Hendeli Channel operation in the southwest of Karkheh river done by   the   Iranian   troops, a battalion from Hamzeh 21st infantry division of IRI army was engaged in the west of this river to develop the western beachhead toward the Karkheh bridge- EinKhosh road, so after a day of heavy   battle, Iranian troops could seize all the designated objectives and push back the enemy. The accomplishment of this operation which remarkably expanded the beachhead in the west of Karkheh River was an appropriate action so that more troops could assemble in the beachhead area.

Result:

-Iranian troops captured some part of the hill called Tappeh cheshmeh dominating the south desert in the west of Karkheh River. As a Result, some part of Karkheh bridge-EinKhosh road was brought under control.

-More than 100 Iraqi forces were killed and wounded and 7 others were captured.

-20 tanks, 5 personnel carriers and the first infantry battalion of the 24th mechanized brigade up to 30 percent were annihilated.
