Corns can be described as the thickening of the skin on the feet, as a result of excessive pressure and friction. Usually small in size, they are extremely painful and make walking a cumbersome task.

Corns usually occur in the areas that are pressed on, by underlying bony structures. The areas surrounding finger nails and those between the finger toes are the most popular sites for the occurrence of corns. Talking about their causes, wearing tight shoes, ill fitting socks, inflexible or nonporous shoes and high-heeled shoes are the main culprits.

Tender to touch, corns get inflamed with constant friction and pressure from footwear. Depending on your skin type, they are generally white and gray or yellow and brown in color. The most common symptoms of the ailment are pyramid-like structures, occurring over the joints of the toes and on the soles of the feet. In case you are now wondering how to treat corns, make use of the natural remedies given below.

Natural Remedies for Treating Corns

· One of the most effective ways to cure corns would be to soak the feet in warm water. When the corns soften, gently rub a pumice stone, stick or an emery board across it. It will help abrade away the horny callus surface.

· Lemon acts as a useful agent in curing corn. Slice a lemon and place its pieces over the corn, tie with a cloth and keep overnight. Next morning, remove the pieces and wash the affected area with a disinfectant.

· Juice of raw papaya also proves beneficial for treating corns. Extract the juice and apply about 1/2 a tsp of it over the hard area, at least three times a day.

· Milky juice of green figs works well for curing corns. Extract the milky secretion and apply ½ tsp of this juice regularly on the corns. Not only would it soften the skin, but also prevent any recurrence of corns.

· Diet plays a pivotal role in curing corns. Make sure you consume foods rich in vitamin and minerals. Light nutritious diet is the key for person suffering from corns.

 · A paste of chalk powder and water is a good remedy for getting rid of corns. Make a thick paste of the two and apply on the affected area. Leave overnight and wash off in the morning.

· Onions have a healing effect on corns and cure them immediately. Cut a few slices of onion. Place the slices on the corns and bandage them. Keep them overnight and remove in the morning.

· Take a bowl of vinegar and soak a couple of ivy leaves overnight. The next morning, remove the leaves and dip a piece of bread in the same water. Apply this bread on the corn and keep it on throughout the day. Replace this with a fresh coat for the night.

· Applying a cotton ball dipped in vinegar would be effective in softening the corns. Once soft, rub it with a pumice stone.

· Tying the corns with a fresh pineapple peel, daily, would be an effective way to cure the corns. Leave it overnight. Regular use would treat the problem permanently.

· Another option would be to boil some oatmeal in water, for about 5 minutes. Thereafter, strain the liquid in a bucket and dip the affected foot in it. It would provide a soothing effect, relieve the pain and heal the corn.

· The juice prepared from the stem of the dandelion has been found to have a soothing effect on the corns. Apply this juice on the corn and leave it overnight. Wash off in the morning.

· Wear shoes with plenty of toe room 'enough space so that you can freely wiggle your toes around inside.

Tips & Warnings

· If you detect any redness around the corn, stop using any corn medication until normal coloring returns.

· If the corn looks too advanced for you to deal with on your own, consult a physician.

· If you have certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or circulatory problems, consult a physician before self-treating foot problems. If you choose to treat yourself, you may develop ulcerations or other problems.

· Never try to use a razor on a corn.
